Syntropy: How Humans Create Value in the Age of AI Entropy
Discover how humans can create irreplaceable value in the age of AI by harnessing the principle of syntropy to generate order, meaning, and unique...
Six weeks ago, I was reviewing a client's internal Slack channels. Their team was brilliant—solving complex problems, sharing insights, answering questions that saved colleagues hours of frustration. But here's what struck me: 95% of this value died in those threads. Valuable solutions that could help hundreds were buried in private channels where five people would see them.
The counterintuitive truth is that most professionals create genuine signal every single day. They just let it decay into entropy instead of capturing and amplifying it.
Let me share what this looks like in practice. Yesterday, one of our engineers spent twenty minutes explaining to a colleague why their API integration kept failing. The explanation was brilliant—clear, specific, addressing a problem that plagues thousands of developers. That knowledge existed for exactly one conversation. By next week, someone else at another company will waste three hours discovering the same solution.
That's entropy in action. Value created, then immediately lost.
Here's what I've learned after watching hundreds of professionals accidentally throw away their best work: The meetings you attend, the emails you write, the problems you solve—these aren't just tasks. They're potential syntropy waiting to be captured and scaled.
When you contribute something valuable during your day—whether it's answering a colleague's question, solving a technical problem, or sharing an insight in a meeting—run it through this filter:
1. Is this relevant for others beyond this conversation? If three people in your company have this question, guaranteed hundreds outside your walls do too. That customer objection you brilliantly handled? Every sales rep in your industry faces it. That workflow you optimized? Thousands of teams struggle with the same friction.
2. Is there already great content online that addresses this? Here's where most people stop. They assume everything's been said. But when did you last find a perfect answer to your specific problem on the first search? The internet is drowning in generic advice while specific, practitioner-tested solutions remain unwritten.
3. Is my contribution adding something new to what exists? You don't need revolutionary insights. You need real experience. That specific error message you debugged. That vendor negotiation tactic that actually worked. That framework you created for your team. These are signals that don't exist in any AI training data because they happened last week in your specific context.
I hear the objection already: "But won't publishing regularly just add to the noise?"
Seth Godin ships a blog every day. Some are three sentences. Some are three pages. None are noise because each serves a specific who for a specific what. The difference between signal and noise isn't frequency—it's intention.
A blog per week isn't "bad volume." Daily posts don't automatically create entropy. The question is whether you take it seriously enough to ensure each piece creates syntropy—order from chaos, clarity from confusion.
The companies that win aren't those publishing less to maintain quality. They're those who've systematized turning daily signal into scalable syntropy.
Here's what usually happens. Someone reads this, gets excited, identifies genuine signal they could share, then... nothing. The gap between recognition and publication kills more value than perfectionism ever could.
"I'm not a writer." "I don't have time." "I don't know where to start."
These objections became obsolete the moment AI tools reached critical capability. My colleague Cris Cubero just published an excellent guide to tools that transform your raw signal into published content. No ghostwriter needed. No journalism degree required.
The tools handle structure, grammar, and polish. You provide the one thing they can't: the genuine human experience and observation that creates syntropy.
Right now, you're sitting on signal that could help hundreds of people. Maybe thousands. It's trapped in your email sent folder, your meeting notes, your Slack history.
Hours 1-24: Review this week's work communications. Find three problems you solved or questions you answered that took real thought. Pick the best one.
Hours 25-48: Write 500 words explaining the problem and your solution. Use AI tools to polish if needed, but keep your authentic experience intact. Be specific. Include the context that made it tricky.
Hours 49-72: Publish it. LinkedIn article. Blog post. Internal knowledge base. The medium matters less than the shipping.
Don't wait for the perfect topic. Don't overthink the format. The syntropy you created three days ago solving that problem is already decaying. Every day you delay, someone else struggles with the same issue you've already solved.
Value is table stakes in the age of AI. Everyone can generate plausible-sounding content. But reputation—built on consistent delivery of genuine signal—becomes your only moat.
Each piece of captured syntropy compounds:
More importantly, you force yourself to clarify your thinking. Writing that solution for public consumption makes you understand it more deeply. Teaching others cements your own mastery.
The tools exist. The signal exists—you're creating it daily. The only gap is execution.
Your reputation isn't built on the brilliant insights you share in private channels. It's built on the syntropy you create for others to find, use, and build upon.
Every day you don't publish is a day your competition gets stronger while your signal decays into entropy. The choice isn't whether to share your knowledge. It's whether that knowledge creates lasting value or disappears into the noise.
No more excuses. Your signal matters. Your experience has value. The world needs more syntropy, not more silence.
